When people say “tiny homes” they usually mean a tiny home on a trailer. But tiny homes can also be built on location, on a foundation. The advantage is that since they are small they cost significantly less than their larger counterparts. If you can’t afford to build a large home or just like the minimalist lifestyle, a tiny home on a foundation might be the best way to go.
There are some advantages to building a tiny home on a foundation, vs a trailer:
- The definition of a tiny home is typically that it is under 400 square feet. This can matter when it comes to building a tiny house on wheels, but when it comes to building on a foundation you can go a little bigger if that is what works for you.
- You can build up! Tiny homes on wheels are limited to a total height of 14 feet. But when building on a foundation you can easily have a second story but still keep a small footprint.
