Can I have a Tiny Home in Port Townsend?

Tiny Homes and ADU's in Port Townsend Washington

There’s good news for tiny Home enthusiasts in Port Townsend.  In March 2023 the city of Port Townsend passed ordinance 3306 to remove barriers for creating new housing. Here are some of the relevant changes:

  • Tiny Houses on Wheels (THOWS) can be used as ADUs. That’s right. You can park a tiny home on wheels on your property and use it as an accessory dwelling unity (ADU).
  • Two ADUs are allowed per residence, whereas previously there was only one allowed.
  • There are no parking requirements related to ADUs. This removes the cost of adding parking space from any project.
  • Reduced setbacks.
  • Increased lot coverage.
  • Owner occupancy requirements were also removed in 2019. This means that the city is encouraging property owners to create ADU’s for renting.

Port Townsend Accessory Dwelling Unit General Information

Mount Baker Tiny Homes  specializes in small dwellings. We can make a tiny home on wheels, or we can make a factory built structure and place it on a foundation, as a permanent structure.

We build to the Washington State Building Code (IRC),
which supersedes and satisfies ANSI 119.5 (park models).
